On October 5, 2022, a special presentation was held at a detachment meeting in recognizing one who served our Nation as a United States Marine. This veteran and a successful and famous baseball player played with the Pittsburgh Pirates and was little known to some that he actually served but this project was rectified of a plaque presented to his sons ensuring that he will never be forgotten. The Marine that I am speaking of is Roberto Clemente, even though he was a reservist he served his time from 1958 to 1964 and served well. Even though posthumously he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the Presidental Citizens Award and the Presidental Medal of Freedom. He was a great humanitarian in helping and assisting others when there was a need. The plaque was presented by Chuck Burrow the Jr. Vice Commandant of the detachment to Roberto Clemente Jr. and Luis Clemente in honor of their father.
