Marine Corps Birthday Ball

Cake Cutting

The Birthday Ball is the single largest event of the year. It gives a chance for spouses and sweethearts to get in their best ball gowns or suits and the Marine to step out in their coveted dress blues. It’s a time to cut loose and celebrate! Birthday Balls consist of a guest of honor, the reading of the commandants message and the all important cake cutting ceremony. During the cake cutting ceremony, the oldest Marine present takes a bite of the cake and passes it to the youngest Marine present. Who in turn also takes a bite of the cake. This signifies the passing of the Corps traditions from one generation to the next. Even when the Marine is away in a far flung land defending our nations freedoms, the Marines will still take time for a cutting of the cake.

And so it must be!

The Marine Corps League South Hills Detachment celebrates the birthday ball every year in November in keeping with tradition. All members, social members and their families are invited to attend. Anyone else in the community who would like to attend are welcome also. Please contact one of the officers listed on this site for instructions on how to get tickets. Is this your first time attending? Please read the below link on proper etiquette
